Volunteer Opportunity: ASY February 2013 Military Program Calendar

Attention Positive Adventurers!
Our good friends at Armed Services YMCA just sent over February’s volunteer program calender, which is full of wonderful opportunities to give back to those that have served our country so admirably.

If you see something you are interested in signing up for, email admin@asymcasd.org. Please provide them with the following information:

Name of Event:

Date of Event:

Name: Your first and last name.

Command: Your command and what base you are on.

Phone Number: Cell phone preferred. We need this in case we have to cancel the event at the last minute.

Email address: The email address you prefer to receive the address/directions.

Will you need transportation; if so, from which base?

We have a large number of people signing up for our volunteer events and we are limited on the amount of volunteers we are able to take to each event. Please do not sign up for an event until you are certain you will be able to attend. We understand that things come up at the last minute so we recommend you do not sign up for events more than three weeks in advance.

 

Homework Helpers: Join the ASY in helping local grade school children with their homework.  Help is needed in a variety of subjects and grade levels.  Volunteers will be paired with children based on their subject interests.  Tuesday, 5, 12, 19 and 26 February 1800-2000 (20 Volunteers each event)

 

Father Joe’s Village: Father Joe’s Village serves over 3,000 meals a day, every day of the year, to the homeless in San Diego.  Join the ASY in helping to serve meals to the large number of people that come to the village to receive food.  Wednesday, 6 & 27 February 1600-1900 (30 Volunteers each event)

 

Feeding America San Diego: We will be sorting and stocking the Feeding America San Diego warehouse to  support our local community members in need.  Help sort and package food for distribution to food banks throughout San Diego. Kids are welcome ages 6 and up.  Wednesday, 13 February 1600 – 2000 (30 Volunteers)

 

Father Daughter Dance:  It’s time again for the Armed Services YMCA’s annual Father/Daughter Dance! We are looking for volunteers to help out at the event. Volunteers will help with set up and breaking down, escorting families to their seats, assisting photographers, and other fun filled activities. This will be a dress event and your dress uniform is required. Pizza dinner will be provided. This event is for military members only. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from the event. Parking will cost $3.00.  Saturday, 16 February, 1600-2100 (15 Volunteers)

 

Neighborhood Exchange: The ASY has partnered with the San Diego Food Bank for a free food giveaway for military families.  Volunteers are needed for organizing food, as well as for set up, carrying food to cars, and breakdown.  Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from the event.  Thursday, 28  February 0845-1230 (40 Volunteers)

DOCUMENTATION OF VOLUNTEER HOURS IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST
FAMILIES WELCOME UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED
