Fun and Effective Team Building Activities for Kids

The concept of team building is a new one to most kids, however, there isn't a better time than during childhood to introduce an individual to the team environment. A child's mind is ripe, ready and possesses a great desire to learn. Teamwork in a child's world equates to an opportunity to “play” with other children while following a few instructions from the know-it-all adults. As adults, we're able to see the education that is offered through games and activities that build a team environment. These activities teach great communication skills, appropriate levels of trust in others and achieving goals with the help of others.

Most Effective Team Building Activities and Exercises for Kids

Team Sports

Over the past decade there has been a renewed focus on offering as many opportunities to children as possible. One opportunity that should be considered for any and every child is the chance to participate on a team in an organized sport. Football, basketball, softball, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, hockey: Regardless of the sport, or a child's athletic ability, they will more than likely take a great interest in the activity based on the team environment as well as the opportunity to interact with their peers.

Team Building Activities - The Great Egg Drop

Games focused on strategy are also wonderful ways to develop strong teamwork and leadership skills in children. Nearly everyone has participated in an “Egg Drop” at some point in their academic career. This activity captures the interest and imagination of every child, and involves a rather simple team process. Build a device to protect an egg as it falls from predetermined height. The goal is to protect the egg by building the lightest egg protection device - the team building the device weighing the least, while effectively protecting the egg is declared the winning team.

Team Building Activities – Kite Building

A wonderful team activity that relies on physics, engineering, imagination and fun. Putting children in groups to build a kite will allow them to gain an excellent grasp on the importance of precision and responsibility in a team environment. This is a great activity for pre-teens.

Positive Adventures, LLC. Summer Camps

Summer camps are another wonderful environment for kids to really enjoy teamwork through team building activities. From organized sports to ropes courses to relay races, kids enjoy a playful environment while enjoying the beginnings of their independence. One key to being a better teammate lies in becoming a responsible individual. Summer camps offer these opportunities to kids of all ages.
